For this project, I wanted to create a UI that felt like it belonged in a harsh, unforgiving world. I was inspired by games with strong survival and historical themes, and I aimed to design an interface that was both immersive and functional. The idea was to make the menus feel like a physical part of the game's world, not just a layer on top of it.
The main menu sets the stage immediately. The custom "Wartruck" logo looks like it’s been pieced together from rusted, bolted metal, grounding you in this industrial world. The menu options themselves are stripped back to the essentials no fuss, just clear choices presented in a clean, legible font that contrasts well with the atmospheric background.
For the settings, consistency was crucial for a good user experience. I designed a simple and effective two panel layout: categories on the left, and options on the right. This makes it easy for players to find exactly what they're looking for.
To maintain the immersive feel, the selected menu items are highlighted with a dark, weathered wood texture. This makes it feel like you're physically interacting with the menu. The semi-transparent backgrounds also ensure that you never feel completely disconnected from the game world, even when you're deep in the graphics options. All the interactive elements, from sliders to toggles, were designed to be clear and functional while fitting the rustic aesthetic.
The goal here was an immersive, in world UI. The main challenge was balancing the gritty, textured aesthetic with perfect readability.
I found that the solution was strong contrast pairing the rough, weathered materials with a very clean font allowed me to achieve both. The final result is a UI that is rugged and atmospheric, yet remains completely intuitive and functional.
